Hols are over! What next?

Of course, studies, classes, tuitions! - I hear what you all say in chorus.

School books do provide you with a lot of knowledge. I know you all read a little more onthe subjects from other books, sometimes even books prescribed by other Boards.

A few more read Gokulam, Chandamama, Tinkle and so on.

But, is just reading and saving information on the hard disk of your brain, just enough?
Do you hear from your parents, teachers, uncles and aunties that there are a few skills which need every child's attention?

Do you like to learn to play a musical instrument?
Do you want to tell your friends whats happening in your apartment complex?
Do you like to talk about safety of school children on the road, in your school's morning assembly?
Do you wish to know more about your town or city?
Are you eager to know what kind of work people do in a bank?
Do you know there are innovators from rural areas?

Then, be on your toes to learn some extra skills - communication, writing, public speaking and above all thinking out of the box!
Keep your eyes, ears open but allow your mind to sound you off whenever something worthwhile is happening. Now read about the awards for grassroot innovations.

I will come back with more ideas and resource places to hone your special skills. Keep visiting the blog.

And yeah, all the best for this all new year!

Nursery / Pre-schools / childcare centres

Hi kids!
For a change, this post is for Moms and Dads!
-----------------------------
On popular demand from young parents, I tried to gather info on nursery schools, pre-schools, play schools, day care / creches in many parts of Chennai.
I came across many such centres in Adyar, T. Nagar, Mylapore, a few in Tiruvanmiyur, Abiramapuram, Velachery and Nungambakkam. Almost 'nil' in north Madras.
I guess the working parents reside, not in North Madras!

I welcome additions to the list. (The list is alphabetical in order)

Disclaimer: Parents, please verify with others who leave their kids in these places, before taking a decision. I do not have any personal experience or connection with any of these schools / creches!
